El Matador State Beach is one of my absolute favorite locations for photo sessions, but it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. Known for its breathtaking beauty, this beach offers stunning backdrops, from rugged cliffs to sparkling waves. However, be prepared for a Game-of-Thrones-like parking experience, a steep hike, and numerous flights of stairs to reach the beach.
This location is not suitable for people with mobility issues or the elderly due to the challenging access. While the scenery is undoubtedly gorgeous, El Matador is always very busy, filled with influencers taking selfies and numerous other photo shoots happening simultaneously. It’s affectionately nicknamed “buttcheek beach” because of the many influencers posing in their swimsuits.
I only shoot here Monday through Wednesday to avoid the peak crowds, but even then, do not expect complete privacy. Additionally, there are no bathrooms at the beach, only a few port-a-potties, so make sure to take care of any needs before arriving and come dressed and ready.
